The Fairview Independent School District provides services for students in grades 4-12 who have been identified as gifted and talented in one or more of the five areas recognized by the Kentucky State regulation. Those five areas with brief descriptions are:
General Intellectual Ability--high level reasoning ability and a ninth stanine score on a full-scale comprehensive test of intellectual ability.
Specific Academic Aptitude (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies)--high performance in a specific subject area and a ninth stanine score on one or more subject areas on an achievement test.
Creativity--Originality of thought, fluency, elaboration, and flexibility of thought. Includes creative writing.
Leadership--Assuming leadership roles in class, student organization(s), and community activities.
Visual and Performing Arts (includes Visual Art, Music, Drama, and Dance)-Evidence of talent or ability as judged by specialists and/or professionals in one of the four areas
Students in grades K-3 who show POTENTIAL for high achievement are placed in a Primary Talent Pool. The Primay Talent Pool (PTP) is a group of primary students that have been informally selected as having characteristics and behaviors of a high potential learner. A variety of informal and formal measures are used to determine whether students are placed in PTP and then to determine what services are to be provided during their time in the primary program.
